Concepcion Panama

Concepcion is located in the west of the capital town David in the Panamanian province Chiriqui close to the frontier to Costa Rica.

It can be reached by car within half an hour. Concepcion is a farming town with great landscape. The vegetation features – among others – fruit trees, coconut palms, sugar cane, orchids and large areas of lush green grass. 15.000 to 20.000 inhabitants are living in this lively town with its good infrastructure which even includes high-speed internet. Street vendors sell their products such as potatoes, green bell pepper, corn, onions, aji (small bell pepper), celery, garlic, cucumbers and the root of the plant “otoe” which is added to soups. The capital town David – the second largest town in Panama – as well as some smaller towns such as Volcan, Boquete and Cerro Punta are located near to Concepcion. Cerro Punta is in the mountains with lower temperatures; the highest peak of this small town is in a height of 2.300 m. A winding and steep road leads from Concepcion to the Talamanca Cordilleras. This chain of mountains – the largest of Costa Rica – extends to the south-east of Panama. In Miskito language its name has the meaning of “place of blood”.
