Taboga Island

Isla Taboga is situated in a distance of 20km to Panama City and can be reached by boat within 40-60 minutes.

It’s an ideal place to escape from the hustle and bustle of large cities and to relax. On workdays Isla Taboga is a place of refuge for those seeking tranquillity, while it is a popular place to be frequented by Panamanian families who want to relax during a week-end. The one-hour boat tour alone is worth as it grants you a magnificent view to the skyline of Panama and the Puente de las Americas.

Taboga or Isla de las Flores – the Flower Island

Isla Taboga can well be compared with a little, sleepy fishing village. The inhabitants affectionately call their island "Isla de las Flores", the "Flower Island". As soon as you have left the jetty, you know the reason for it. The island is rather small – just a village with a few restaurants and hotels. It is characterised by narrow alleys which are decorated with oleander, hibiscus and strongly smelling jasmine. The houses of Isla Taboga look like a splendid sea of colours which is surrounded by palms and green tropical forests. Experience the island, which was not only Pizarro’s starting-point on his way to Peru, but also Gaugin’s source of new inspirations.

Activities on Taboga

You may enjoy two fantastic beaches on Isla Taboga:  "Playa Honda" and „Playa Restinga".  Playa Honda is directly close to the jetty and accessible to everybody.  Underwater sportsmen can borrow diving- and snorkelling equipment in the hotel Taboga. If you are tired of sunbathing, you can explore the island – despite its small size Isla Taboga is really worth being discovered. A narrow hiking trail through the jungle is ending at the Mirador (lookout point) granting you a spectacular view to the sea and the harbour of the island.

I would like to go there, but how?

You can go to Taboga by boat, choosing one of the daily ferry connections to the island: Both, “Calypso Queen” and “Calypso Princess” are typical ferries which are shady despite their open decks. The boat tour of about 45 minutes is worth due to the great view to the skyline of Panama City and Puente de las Americas. The ferries leave from Calypso Dock of Isla Naos des Calzada de Amador ("Causeway") where you should have arrived one hour before the ferry’s departure time.
