The province of Panama is geographically situated at the very heart of the country and is home to the eponymous capital. To the west it borders with the provinces of Cocle and Colon and on the east with Guna Yala and the province of Darien. With over 1.6 million inhabitants it forms the economic center of the country and thanks to its strategic location it is also home to the Panama Canal. More than half of the gross domestic product is generated here. The province of Panama is one of the most visited by tourists. Number one tourist attraction is clearly the Panama Canal, which is also often referred to as the eighth wonder of the world. Even Panama City with its recently restored old city, Casco Viejo, and the ruins of Panama Viejo is a very popular destination. Other popular attractions are the numerous national parks that are located not far from the capital. The province of Panama also invites for a beach holiday. There are plenty of Islands and beaches that are definitely worth to visit. The Pearl Islands that are located in the Pacific Ocean with its white sandy beaches and turquoise water is an absolute paradise. Many sailing boats and motor yachts do stops there in order to enjoy the beaches and the idyllic islands' flair. Also pretty close from the mainland there is the small Pacific island of Taboga. The famous paintor Gauguin was enchanted by this place and spent some time on this beautiful and cozy island.

The province of Panama with its capital Panama City is the most famous province in Panama. Especially Panama City is definitely a true El Dorado in terms of entertainment. Here you can enjoy the whole range of entertainment. Apart from that Panama City is the starting point for all trips and tours into the countrys interior.

Day tours – The province of Panama is home to the world famous Panama Canal. This masterpiece of engineering, which has cost a lot of people their lifes, is one of the most impressive buildings of our time and therefore one of the most popular tour destinations in Panama City. Beside the Panama Canal, tours to the Amador, an artificial causeway, at the entrance of the Panama Canal, is in high demand. Another destination for a day trip is Barro Colorado, an island in the Gatun Lake located inside the Panama Canal. No other city in the world, but Panam City contains a widlife park within its citys limits, the so-called Metropolitan Park. Two more nationalparks are located in Panama, the Soberania National Park and the Las Cruces Trail National Park. Especially eco-tourists will enjoy a hiking trip through the national parks. Also a day trip to Taboga Island can be recommended.

Entertainment – Panama City is an entertainment El Dorado. The modern city offers a whole range of possiblities in terms of party and nightlife. Big hotel chains with integrated casinos, discos, bars and restaurants offer entertainment to the fullest. The nightlife of Panama City is pretty diverse and active and like all latinos, Panamanians love to party and enjoy theirselves. You like shopping? Perfect, because you wouldn't want to miss duty free shopping in Panama City. Not least because of  the high standard of living so many people love to enjoy Panama.

Culture – Panama City is not only the modern city with its skyline, the many casinos, bars, restaurants and clubs. The city has a unique history and has lived a lot of eras of world history. For travellers being interested in the history of the country, the historic city, as well as the ruins of the old Panama, which was destroyed by Henry Morgan, the so-called Panama Viejo and the little town Portobelo containing the world famous Fort San Lorenzo are a must.

Islands and beaches – The province of Panama contains various beautiful islands and beaches. The most beautiful islands are Taboga Island, the Pearl Islands, with especially Contadora Island. As soon as you head in the direction of the province of Cocle you will find a lot of amazing beaches, like Punta Chame, Gorgona, Coronado and especially the Playa Blanca Beach. Those beaches are home to luxurous five star beach resorts, which are being visited by tourists, as well as locals.

  •  Panama Viejo – The ruins of the old Panama, which was destroyed in 1671 by the famous pirate Henry Morgan are called Panama Viejo or Panama La Vieja. After the demolition of Panama City by Morgan the new Panama was built, which is referred to today as the historic city, Casco Viejo.

  •  Pearl Islands – The Pearl Islands are an archipelago which consits of 90 islands and 130 smaller islands of vulcanic origen. The largest islands of the archipelago are Isla del Rey, Isla San Jose, Isla Saboga, Isla Pedro-Gonzales, Isla Pachega, Isla Viveros and the most famous, Contadora Island.

How to get to Panama?

By plane – Obviously Panama can be reached by plane. If you enter Panama from another country, you can fly with the fitting airline to Tocumen international airport. From there you can reach the citys center within 20 minutes.

By bus – Panama can only be reached by bus from Costa Rica and every other province of Panama. From Colombia it can't be reached because of the Darien Gap.

By car – Travelling to Panama by car is just like travelling by bus.
